Getting around: Walking is an excellent way to reach shops and attractions in the immediate area. For other destinations, the subway is a good choice, especially during rush hour (less than $5; fees subject to change without notice). Taxis are another good way to get around town. SERVICES
What to expect: Many performers and theater lovers frequent this small, upscale hotel. A Matisse-inspired ceiling mural depicts the nine muses, and specially commissioned art and photography celebrate the performing arts throughout. Even the aptly named District restaurant, designed by David Rockwell, features a stage theme—open-weave steel curtains are drawn aside as if gracing the opening to a stage.

Amenity highlights: Guests have direct-dial telephones with individual numbers in their guestrooms, and local calls of up to three minutes are free. Personalized business cards include private numbers. Business services and cellular phone rental is available at the front desk. Twice daily housekeeping service and nightly turndown are standard at the Muse. The fitness room is equipped with bicycles, treadmill, and weights.

Insider tip: Restaurant Row is 2 blocks west of the hotel, along West 46th Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues. It's the location of many popular theater district restaurants, such as Becco, Barbetta, Joe Allen, B. Smith, Fire Bird, Kyma, Le Beaujolais, Lattanzi, Le Marais, and Orso.

The Muse takes pride in its service, beginning with sit-down check-in, concierge service, valet parking, and twice daily housekeeping.

    Valet parking:
    $43 per 24-hour period. No in/out privileges.
