Driving directions from Newark: Follow signs to take US 1/US 9 north to I-95 (New Jersey Tpke) north (toll road). Take I-495 to the Lincoln Tunnel and exit to West Side Hwy/40th St. Turn right on W 40th St, then turn right on Lexington Ave. Turn right on E 39th St and the hotel is on the right.

Getting there: From LaGuardia and JFK, the best option for the solo traveler is a shuttle van ($16–25). Groups of two or more will usually find a taxi more economical ($26–35 from LaGuardia; more than $36 from JFK). Guests traveling light form JFK can also opt for the Air Train ($5–15), then take a taxi from the station to the hotel. Getting around: There are several shops and attractions within a short walk of the hotel. The subway (less than $5; fees subject to change without notice) is a good way to reach other destinations, especially during peak traffic hours. Taxis are also readily available. Rental cars are not recommended.

W Café - Light fare from the kitchen of Icon is served in a colorful lobby setting of gray-and-wood paneled walls and purple drapes.

CHERRY BAR - The dim room positively glows with red walls, red leather seating, and a cherry-red pool table. A special convex mirror overhead insures that everyone has a prime view, no matter where they are seated at this hip and sensual bar. It was created by Rande Gerber, designer of the popular Whiskey bars in New York, New Orleans, and Las Vegas.
