Driving directions from SAT: Follow signs to Rte 281 south and continue on I-37 south. Take the Commerce St exit and turn right on Commerce. Turn left on Alamo Plaza, then turn left on St Mary's St. The hotel is on the left.

Getting around: There are several attractions within walking distance of the hotel. For other destinations, the best option is the VIA streetcars (less than $5; fees subject to change without notice). The streetcars stop near the hotel and offer convenient transport around downtown, and express service to SeaWorld and Fiesta Six Flags. Taxis are also available.

McLeod's - The hotel's Victorian pub has leaded-glass windows, a large oak bar with brass railings, and red leather stools. Open each evening for libations and hot hors d'oeuvres, it offers a large-screened TV. On Friday and Saturday evenings, there is live entertainment by the house band.

Sheraton Gunter Bakery - This bakery has been turning out its own fresh baked goods for decades, and a Seattle's Best Coffee bar is a recent addition. Some specialties include croissants, cheesecake, breakfast pastries and muffins, and chocolate-covered strawberries.

Amenity highlights: The fitness center has a selection of cardio equipment and a weight machine. An outdoor lap pool and spa tub are surrounded by a courtyard with views of the city. Barron's serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with specialties such as eggs Benedict. McLeod's is open each evening for libations and hot hors d'oeuvres and offers a large-screened TV and, on weekends, live entertainment. Guests also enjoy fresh baked goods at the Gunter Bakery.
